Navid Norouzi (geb. 1990 in Heidelberg) ist ein in Berlin lebender Künstler mit deutsch-iranischen Wurzeln. Er arbeitet vorwiegend mit Öl und Acryl und hat eine malerische Praxis entwickelt, die auf Intuition, Transformation und emotionaler Tiefe basiert. Seine Kompositionen entstehen durch wiederholte Prozesse des Schichtens, Abtragens und Überarbeitens. Die Gemälde tragen Spuren ihres eigenen Entstehungsprozesses in sich – frühere Versionen bleiben unter der Oberfläche erhalten und werden durch Dichte, Gewicht und Textur spürbar.

Seit seinem Umzug nach Berlin im Jahr 2016 verfolgt Norouzi seine künstlerische Praxis unabhängig und außerhalb akademischer Strukturen. Seine Arbeiten sind geprägt von der Spannung zwischen dem Persönlichen und dem Politischen, insbesondere durch seine Verbindung zum Iran – einem Land, dessen zunehmende Distanz, bedingt durch Jahrzehnte politischer Repression, zu einem wiederkehrenden Unterton seiner Werke geworden ist. Anstatt narrative Inhalte direkt abzubilden, übersetzen seine Gemälde emotionale Zustände wie Sehnsucht, Fragmentierung und Resilienz in abstrakte Formen.

Norouzi zeigte seine Arbeiten bereits in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in Berlin und gestaltete das Cover des Buches Empathy and Resistance von Kristina Lunz. Seine aktuelle Ausstellung A Colour We’ve Never Seen in der Galerie Grolman versammelt neue Arbeiten an der Schnittstelle von persönlicher Erinnerung und politischer Abwesenheit.

Navid Norouzi (b. 1990, Heidelberg) is a Berlin-based artist with German-Iranian roots. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, he has developed a painterly practice grounded in intuition, transformation, and emotional depth, building compositions through repeated cycles of layering, scraping, and reworking. His paintings carry traces of their own making – earlier versions remain beneath the surface, perceptible through texture, density, and weight.

Since relocating to Berlin in 2016, Norouzi has pursued painting independently, developing his artistic language outside formal academic structures. His work is shaped by the tension between the personal and the political, particularly through his connection to Iran – a country whose increasing distance, shaped by decades of political repression, has become a recurring undercurrent in his practice. Rather than illustrating narratives directly, his paintings translate emotional states such as longing, fragmentation, and resilience into abstract form.

Norouzi has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Berlin and created the cover artwork for the book Empathy and Resistance by Kristina Lunz. His current exhibition A Colour We’ve Never Seen at Galerie Grolman in Berlin brings together new works situated at the intersection of personal memory and political absence.
